Today, we are aerifing greens with 'needle tines' rather than the 1/2" core we usually use in the Spring time. With the storm we had on Sunday, the greens were excessively soft and pulling a core would only make them softer making it difficult to topdress (sand) and work the sand in all the aerification holes. We are topdressing behind the aerifier and working the sand into the turf canopy. This method gives us minimal disturbance to the putting surface, yet has many benefits to the green profile. With the projected rain tomorrow, the topdressing sand will get washed into the canopy and the remaining pebbles being picked up with the mower.
